Have you ever heard the phrase “your mentality becomes your reality?” If you haven’t, this is one of those defining quotes you want to add to your Rolodex, and if you have, you probably instantly think of Clay Burt, Team Lead at Legion Elite, like we do.
OKC born and Tulsa raised, Clay spent his childhood in Liberty Mounds and grew up with 2 great parents, a younger sister, and a passion for sports. Getting involved in T-ball at the age of 4 and football at the age of 7, Clay was always outside with a ball in hand. His dedication to athletics continued throughout high school, and by 10th grade, his focus extended to attending showcases and extra football camps on weekends/school breaks. Clay’s hard work was rewarded with a football scholarship to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M!
Redshirting as a freshman, Clay enjoyed 3 years on Northeastern’s team, earning more playing time each and every season. By his final year, he was starting as the team’s offensive tackle and receiving recognition from Division 1 and Division 1 AA schools! Another scholarship led Clay to South Alabama in Mobile, and he spent his last 2 collegiate years playing his heart out and forming lasting friendships with his teammates. Graduating in May 2017 with his Bachelor’s in Marketing, he walked the stage as a leader on the field and in the classroom.
Post-graduation, Clay spent a month in Europe with his significant other, touring all over England, Belgium, Germany, and Croatia! Upon his return to Oklahoma City, and now with a taste for travel, Clay started applying to marketing firms across the city that offered travel, teamwork, and growth. He found all three when he interviewed at Legion Elite.
Meeting first with marketing manager, Dan Sheppard, Clay remembers being nervous until Dan asked him how he thought he would do in a performance-based atmosphere. Clay responded, “I’ve been in a performance-based atmosphere since I started sports at 4. If I didn’t perform, I didn’t play. I’m extremely comfortable and thrive in environments like that.” Clay was naturally invited in for a second interview and offered a position at Legion Elite the following day!
Since last September, Clay has served as a pacesetter within our organization and the definition of what having a great mentality and attitude looks like. He is as determined and goal oriented as they come, and like in college, a leader to his teammates. With goals of being promoted to an Assistant Management role this summer and Management by the end of the year, Clay shows up every day like its game day.
Outside of work, he loves to golf, fish, adjust his Fantasy Football roster, spend time with his younger sister, and catch a Thunder game with his coworkers. Clay is the type of person you love to be around and someone you know is going to win. We’re extremely grateful for his leadership and can’t wait to see all he accomplishes this year. With the mindset of a champion though, we know it’s going to be epic!
